NRGz Tilo (Air Exhaust Heat Pump Cylinder)
Domestic hot water (DHW) generation is a key part of any heating system, but there are some fundamental differences between DHW and space heating. While the space heating seasons is only 8 months of the year, the need for DHW is all year.
Another difference is that while the water used for space heating can be around 45 degrees, which is perfect for conventional heat pumps. The DHW needs to be over 60°C to combat Legionella, which many heat pumps struggle with.
The NRGz Tilo is a specialized air exhaust heat pump cylinder which, unlike conventional heat pumps, takes the energy from the warm exhaust air of the building. By doing this the NRGz Tilo is able to heat the DHW to over 60°C without compromising on its efficiency. The NRG Tilo provides the benefits of a heat pump without the common temperature limitations of a conventional heat pump taking energy from the cold outside air.
Another benefit of the NRGz Tilo is that the heat pump is mounted on top of the cylinder, meaning that there are no primary pipework losses. This will reduce energy costs as well as helping on a BER assessment.
By splitting the space heating and DHW like this the space heating can be turned off completely during the summer, while the DHW generation can continue. If the space heating is a heat pump it might even be able to cool the building during the summer months while the NRG Tilo still generates DHW.
The NRGz Tilo is 1.8kW, has a capacity of 300 litres and it comes or without a coil. The coil can be used to supplement the internal heat pump from solar or the space heating system. By connecting the coil to the space heating system the heating appliances can assist the NRGz Tilos during periods of high DHW use if needed.
